My research led me to the observation that the manner in which Plotinus conceives the intelligible forms displays significant similarities with certain aspects of contemporary semiotics. However, nobody, as far as I know, describes the ancient philosopher as a possible precursor of such contemporary theories. Nevertheless, I believe that Plotinus deserves such a position, and the work that follows is intended to substantiate that claim.
