The causes of African wars are complex and diverse. Ethnically based inequality is a major casual factor. The failure of independent African leaders to transform repressive colonial structures into democratic institutions and properly address the root causes of conflict have made it more difficult to stop grievances and break the cycle of violence in African communities.
