In this tablet hydrochlorothiazide was formulated as immediate release for which sodium starch glycolate and croscarmellose sodium was used as superdisintegrants. While metoprolol tartrate was formulated as sustained release for which HPMC K4 M and Eudragit RSPO were used as release retarding polymers. In this bilayer tablet hydrochlorothiazide showed quick action and the sustained release of metoprolol tartrate maintain the drug concentration within therapeutic range for period of 12 hrs. Prepared tablets were evaluated for thickness, hardness, friability, uniformity of weight, disintegration time and dissolution study. Disintegration time and drug release were taken as the basis to optimize the tablets.
