Following this insight, Hendrik Makeler studies the history and importance of money in the German lands of the late Middle Ages, especially as it has to do with constitutional issues. These show, for example, the beginnings of the Hundred Years War and the election of King Charles IV, because in increasingly monetarized politics cash payments were now the preferred means of power.
