The aim of this book is to analyze the functions of figures in the poetry of one outstanding Hungarian poet from the modern period. The work examines the meaning-forming and structure organizing functions of figures in different periods of Endre Ady’s poetry. A complete study is not achievable, but this book can serve as an example for further stylistic research as well as stylistic research of text variants in different languages. The poem analyses are opened by a short overview of the thesis of devices / theory of figures. The parallel investigation gives the opportunity to show the differences and sameness of the figures and structures used in different languages. Readers get an overall picture of the difficulties of foreign language attempts when recreating Ady’s unique style.
